Why Ireland: Advanced Manufacturing Ireland!

With Irish citizens settling all around the globe having come from a county with a long history of migration, it’s no surprise that this emerald island welcomes people from every country.

Whether simply to enjoy the ‘craic’ (a good time), avail of world-class education, or work in some of the best companies in the world, people who come to Ireland become part of a multicultural, diverse and innovative haven.

But why invest your spirit of play, your education, your career, your equipment sourcing or even your business in Ireland?

Despite the global changes of covid, Ireland continues to be the fastest growing economy in the EU. In fact, the Irish Economic and Social Research Institute predict a continued growth:

“The Irish economy will grow at a rate that would have been the envy of many European economies before the pandemic.”

The recent turmoil from the Ukraine has brought to light even more the need for stability not just in economy but in safety. Ireland is a stable democracy in which political rights and civil liberties are respected and defended. The Economist Intelligence Unit ranks the Irish democracy as one of the most stable democracies in the world, ranking alongside Norway, Iceland, Sweden, New Zealand, Denmark and Canada.

So what does this all have to do with manufacturing in Ireland? When it comes to supply, OEMs of all sizes, whether large multinationals or advanced disrupter start-ups, all need stability and efficiency across the entire supply chain delivery, along with the best technical minds that make up a skilled reliable manufacturing team.

We have the honour of being in a position of bringing together superior manufacturers with stellar OEM’s, and would be delighted to talk to you about your needs. Please contact us for a discovery call.

Digitise your Inventory to Help Localise Your Supply with Additive Manufacturing.

Thanks to all the Additive Manufacturing speakers last week at the Manufacturing and Supply Chain Conference, in Dublin. I was privileged to moderate 12 expert speakers sharing so many insights to the benefits of 3D technology, some of which I will bullet point for you:

  • Digitising your inventory helps localise your supply for sustainability and cost.
  • Artists and designers have the freedom to imagine that’s easy to make new realities.
  • Metals, polymers and ceramics can be simultaneously printed.
  • The Oil and Gas sector is about 12 years behind Medtech and Aerospace in 3D.
  • Varieties of sensors can be embedding utilising 3D printing.
  • Take time with your children to play and learn 3D printing for fun results.
  • This technology is truly part of our sustainable future as a sustainable disrupter.
  • The integrity of metal components are comparable to conventional parts.
  • Exotic alloys such as Inconel are very cost effective to produce – zero scrap.

The following day, I was free to roam around this high-spirited exhibition. I took advantage of a variety of enlightening discussions about Industry 5.0 in particular as it takes in the circular economy future.

Thanks to Colin Murphy and team for having the courage to host this stellar event as the business community needed to get their products and services promoted despite the weary environmental challenges.

Promotion and selling are the lifeblood of business and economies so liberate yourself and learn how to rebuild your foundation of brilliance for your brands long-term survival.

Let me know if you have any questions so I can direct you to the appropriate expert speaker to best answer.

“Domestics” Don’t Happen Just at Home!

The grass isn’t always greener on the other side, you know. Outsourcing is often typically associated with a company using an offshore manufacturer as opposed to domestic suppliers.

The logic: Offshore = cheaper labour.

However, some critical points are missed with this equation: While equipment contract manufacturers can have the necessary equipment, management and skilled staff to supply precise products that adhere to the highest quality standards offshore and domestically, a domestic company bypasses the need for additional shipment steps, safeguards against communication getting lost in translation (for non-English speaking suppliers), and prevents overall management pitfalls.

So, for companies considering to move their production to an ECM, turn that “offshore leap of faith” into a “domestic strategic transition”.

Modular Automation is an Irish equipment contract manufacturer we stand proudly next to, in providing domestic solutions for reliable, Industry 4.0 manufacturing, serving at the gateway of Europe to the East and the USA to the West.

Value Engineering Benefits

Sometimes, design engineers under or over specify fit-for-purpose project requirements. Along with a host of new materials now commercially available on the market, advanced manufacturing has opened up a range of processes that were not previously possible.

Specialists in design-for-purpose and manufacturability are generally up-to-date with materials and how best to design cost effective solution, but designers with a toolmaking DNA are known to combine a holistic balance of simple mechanisms to solve complex problems, coupled with the right grade and treatment of materials. These skills feed into the commercial challenge of providing competitiveness, which includes aftermarket service to provide spare parts and ease of serving the unit.

It can be a challenge to keeping informed with manufacturing techniques, material science and process improvements unless you are at the cutting edge side of the industry, so be sure to have dynamic partners to collaborate with for your designs, as the cost of getting it wrong can mean your kit doesn’t make it in the market.
